The Ragnarök Upgrade Technique

When you are ready to unlock a new level of Guardsmen, you should wait until the Ragnarök event to do so. There is a technique you can use that will greatly increase the rewards you receive from the event.

The Short Version

• complete all required construction
• complete all required research
• save up enough VP and speedups to unlock the new Guardsmen
• wait for Ragnarök to start, then enter the event but do not enter the shop
• complete research to unlock the new Guardsmen
• return to the event and enter the shops

This accomplishes two things. First, it fixes the points threshold for collecting rewards to the lower guardsmen level, but then gives you more powerful troops to use to collect those rewards. Second, it allows you to access higher level shop items immediately.

The technique hinges on the fact that the shops and the event are not linked and can be set independently. You enter the event at the lower guardsmen level, which determines how many points you need to collect the rewards. Then you upgrade to the next guardsmen level. When you go into the shops, you will now see the items available to the new, higher level guards.

Why does this work?

Personal Goals

In every event, you earn rewards based on your points. The points needed for rewards depend on your Guardsmen level when the event starts. Unlocking a new Guardsmen level after the event starts keeps the points requirement the same, but gives you stronger troops to earn those points.

Ragnarök Rewards

During Ragnarök, you fight two epic monsters: the Jörmungandr snake and the Fenrir wolf. The personal goals provide you with coins to spend in the shops. The items available in the shops depend on your Guardsmen level when you first enter. By waiting to enter the shop until after upgrading your Guardsmen, you get access to better items.

Step by Step Guide

This involves timing the upgrade of your Guardsmen to a new level just after the event starts. This allows you to take advantage of stronger troops while still benefiting from lower points thresholds. Here’s how to do it:

Preparation before the event

• Complete pre-requisites:
  • upgrade the Academy to the level required to research the new guardsmen
  • complete required research, including research from previous levels
  • see the cost table for construction and research requirements and costs
• Gather resources:
  • save up enough Valor Points to unlock all new Guardsman types
  • stockpile speedups to complete research quickly
  • keep plenty of silver for training troops and gold for reviving mercs and monsters

Timing the upgrade

• Before the event starts:
  • start research on one type of new Guardsmen but don’t complete it
  • gather help clicks from your clan to reduce research time
• After the event has started:
  • shortly after Ragnarök starts, click to open the Jörmungandr and Fenrir events, but DO NOT ENTER THE SHOPS. This locks the points requirement at the lower Guardsmen level.
  • complete the research on the first new Guardsman type, then upgrade the others. Use help clicks or speedups as needed
  • enter the Ragnarök shop to see items for your new Guardsmen level

You now have two days to use your new, stronger troops to fight the snake and wolf, earning many more points due to the lower goals.

Wait for Ragnarök to unlock new guardsmen

While this technique works with any event, it works best during Ragnarök because:

• It’s a two-day event, giving you more time to use stronger troops
• There’s no limit to the rewards you can earn; keep fighting to collect coins
• Ragnarök offers the most valuable rewards in the game

Hold onto your coins for even bigger rewards

Items in the shops increase in value with each Guardsmen level, but costs stay mostly the same. For example, here are the costs for the Valor Points rewards you can purchase from the Fenrir shop:

Coins you earn are carried over to the next event. By using the trick to upgrade from G2 to G3, or G3 to G4, and saving coins until you unlock G5, the same 500K Fenrir coins can buy you over 15 times as much VP! The longer you hold them, the more they’re worth.
