When you attack an epic monster, your entire army is going to die, no matter what. You can’t change the outcome of the battle, but there are things you can to do maximise the number of XP, VP, and tournament points you get.
The key to getting the most points out of fighting an epic monster is to build your army in such a way that your strongest troops, those that do the most damage, die last. You want to give those troops the opportunity to attack more than once before they are killed.
